About BCBA and QBA Qualification
Board Certified Behavior Analyst, BCBA, and Qualified Behavior Analyst, QBA, are graduate-level certifications in behavior analysis.

The Nature of BCBA
Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) is a graduate-level certification in behaviour analysis. It is a standard set by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board (BACB). BCBAs are qualified to supervise the work of BCaBAs and Registered Behaviour Technicians (RBTs) in implementing behaviour-analytic interventions. They design and implement treatment plans and serve as supervisors and behaviour consultants. BCaBAs require supervision from BCBAs but can supervise RBTs.
About BACB Organization
BACB, a non-profit organization established in 1998 in Florida, sets the minimum standard for behaviour analysts. It has expanded internationally since 2000. The BCBA requirements are regularly updated by industry professionals. Currently, there are 22,620 behaviour analysts worldwide, with certification courses offered by universities globally. Hong Kong and mainland China have 43 and around 48 behaviour analysts respectively, comprising only 1.7% of the BCBA population in Florida.

About QABA Organization

QABA now offers a 3-tiered credentialing model, offering certified providers across all levels of behavior analysis.

Is BCBA/QBA Credential Equivalent to Autism Expert?
BCBA or QBA is a qualification for behaviour analysts, but it doesn’t make someone an autism expert. It’s crucial to inquire about their certification date and autism training when approached by a BCBA/QBA. This ensures clarification on their expertise in the field.
Key Considerations for Spotting a Quality Autism Behaviour Therapist

- Has experience working in different settings, such as one-on-one, groups, school shadowing, etc.
- Teaches generalization to different environment and people
- Makes swift changes according to the behaviours of the child
- Makes functional assessment, to find out the cause of behaviour, and design intervention accordingly
